The Poets

We who put the pen to paper

writing rhyme and prose

are searching for a way to ponder

all the world’s great loves and woes.

And some have called us visionaries

for the things we say.

but every human heart has spoken

what we put in words today!

What I feel and see and do

are what they are ~ they’re mine

and yet the need to write them

makes them open to all kinds. . .

Thee ones who call them stupid,

the ones who say they’re wrong,

yes, even those who think

they’d make good rhythms for a song.

A writer has no power

but the power she accepts,

for her words are but expressions

of the thoughts her soul begets.
