I am a wife of 37 years, mother of 3, grandmother of 4, sister to 3.   I am a Lay Associate with the Passionist Community of Pittsburgh Pa.

I am a big supporter of Organ Donation because I am a double lung recipient as of Sept. 30, 2005!!!

I am a writer and a reader.  I write poetry and other things that come to mind, so I hope you don’t mind if I share them with you!

    • Hi, Thanks for the follow. I wanted to leave a comment on your blog, but I couldn’t find a place to do it.
      I read several of your pieces. I do like the flow of your words and the suggestions you give on writing.
      I especially liked your piece on being called a writer. . .I think most of us do that. I write poetry also
      but calling myself a poet sounds funny. . .

  11. Hi, Sandy!

    I just noticed you are following me (thank you) and now I am following you. Also, I am in awe that – among other things – you’ve had a double-lung transplant and a survivor for six years. Thank you for sharing that and giving me – and no doubt others – hope.

    I am in a lung-transplant program. Right now I am considered chronic and stable. I’ve been fortunate that medications have worked so far. I won’t actually go on the list unless things change. Thanks so much for being open.

      Wow, you too with lung disease. My primary disease was emphysema with an asthma component. Actually on Sunday, Sept. 30th will be 7yrs. since the transplant. I am so grateful that I was given this second chance.

      I think if you follow your DRs. orders and live with the most positive attitude you can, things can go well for you. I will keep in touch
      and if you ever have any questions, I will answer if I can.

      • Oh, Sandy. Thank you! I’m so glad for you and your family that you are doing well.

        Mine is interstitial lung desease (fibrosis) – I”ve been so fortunate. Not only have I outlived my medically predicted experation date by 13 years this December; but, though I’ve come close to have transplant, so far dietary modifications and pharmacuiticals (sp?) have done the job. I’ve never smoked and don’t drink!!! But, they say there are some 600 potential causes for these conditions.

        I’m glad to have “met” you and look forward to getting to know you.

    • Thank you so much for your comment! Passionists are a group of religious Priests, Brothers, Nuns and lay people. In fact, you have Passionists working in Kingston.
      Organ donation is the key to saving lives. So many organs go the way of trash instead of fulfilling someone’s dream to live, once more
      for a while.

      • That is very interesting… And organ donation makes perfect sense to me. I think there is too much superstition preventing people from doing it…

      • I don’t recall if I answered you on this as yet, but I will say that Organ Donation is something that many people feel “creepy” about. It is our job as transplant recipients to get the word out and try to quell the fears of those who just can’t seem to wrap their brains around the idea of being an organ donor.

        I’m happy to say that because of my transplant, people in my circle of friends have put Organ Donor on their driver’s licenses. They saw how this miracle of life happened for me and they jumped on the bandwagon.

        Perhaps one day the idea of organ donation will have a better reception.

    • I do know how it is. I am the mother of 3 grown childen and 4 grandchildren ages 5, 4, 3, and 19 months. They are from 2 daughters. Yesterday I was
      watching all 4 so they could play together. And this is why we should all have children at young ages. At 61, I am pooped!!!

I read your post about the day you received your lungs and I was struck by what an incredibly brave person you are.

    • James, you earned those words. All writers really need to have feedback on their work, it takes toil and sweat to put those words on paper.

  16. Thank you Sandy, for viewing and following my blog. You have quite a testimony and write beautiful and inspiring poetry. I wrote two just recently and never wrote poems before, but felt that God inspired me to write them and the words just came out the way they did.

    • You are very kind in your reply. I have had the same thing happen to me when writing poetry. Many times it’s like this. . .I have a phrase running around in my mind and it won’t leave me alone until I write it down and usually the rest follows rather quickly.

      First of all, I just love your name!!!

      Thank you for checking out my “about” page. Yes, actually my 8th anniversary will be on Sept. 30th, but what’s a month? My prayer before my transplant was, please Lord let me live long enough to cradle my grandbabies in my arms. . .they hadn’t even been conceived at that point. Today, I have 4 grandchildren, ages 6, 5, 4, and 2. God has been very good to me. . .
